GA Thoughts Pt. 2 (Congrats to BRC!)

I failed to mention that our new PCUSA Moderator is Bruce Reyes-Chow, a pastor of the emerging Mission Bay congregation in San Francisco. As I told friends in an email last week, "I’ve known Bruce for a few years (through Montreat Youth Conferences) and believe he has the enthusiasm, theological vision, and sense of humor (gasp!) we desperately need in a moderator today."

Bruce's candidacy was fueled by his blog and a huge Facebook group with over 700 members. Simply awesome.

The next two years will be hectic (for lack of a better word) for Bruce, his wife Robin, and their three girls. If you're a praying type of person, please keep them in your thoughts.

Chris - thanks for the "props" and yes, i am that old and dorky to be using "props" - It certainly will be an interesting few years. And while much of my role is to be a person that is part of the conversations around the ongoing struggle about ordination, my larger hope is to find places where folks can engage in different and new ways. Folks like yourselves are central to the movement of the denomination into a healthy future, whatever that may look like.

And here is the new facebook group:

Anytime, old man! The conversations should be (and already are) interesting but powerful. Hopefully there can be an open but not over-reactive middle ground for the "can't see the forest for the trees" and the "there's an elephant in the room?!? where?" crowds. If we can just try to have some faith and let the Spirit do some guiding, that unknown future might be a pretty cool place.

Yes, it already takes so much work to engage with each other a bit. Add technology and all of a sudden, the work becomes that much more intense and intentional . . . but the potential is so great. Later!
