Too bad we don't have contemporary composers who can write with the power of Fosdick's "God of Grace and Glory." Of course he was a liberal so nobody would as much as hum him today.
There are some great songs in the midst of what I call "Jesus is my Boyfriend" tunes. John Bell of the Iona Community (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_L._Bell) has written some great tunes in recent years.

yeah, it's as overdone as that guy who yells "freebird!!!!" at every bar band in the u.s.
